Goat serum is a suitable alternative to fetal bovine serum in a wide range of cell culture applications such as the isolation and identification of viruses produced in a variety of primary cell lines. Donor goat (caprine) serum is also used as a diluent/buffer in ELISA test kits. It is ideal as a blocking agent for Western blots and is also useful as a tissue culture media supplement.
