Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS) is a widely used cell culture supplement that provides proteins, growth factors, hormones, and attachment factors that support the maintenance, growth, and proliferation of eukaryotic cells in vitro. Naturally occurring attachment factors also contribute to cell adhesion to culture surfaces.

FBS is obtained from aseptically collected fetal bovine blood. Following coagulation, the serum is separated from blood cells and coagulation components by centrifugation and subsequently processed through triple 0.1 µm filtration.

Each lot undergoes comprehensive quality control, including testing for endotoxin and mycoplasma levels and screening for specific bovine viruses, including Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV). Hemoglobin and total protein levels are measured, and cell culture performance is evaluated to assess the quality and suitability of the serum for cell culture applications.

The serum is collected or imported and processed in accordance with applicable European regulations.
