Alpha Minimum Essential Medium (a-MEM) is a modified version of MEM, enriched with non-essential amino acids, sodium pyruvate, thioctic acid, vitamin B12, biotin, and ascorbic acid. It supports the growth of various suspension and adherent mammalian cells, including keratinocytes, primary rat astrocytes, and human melanoma cells. a-MEM is frequently used for the culture of mesenchymal stem cells. Phoenix Scientific’s a-MEM formulation is free of L-glutamine, ribonucleosides, and deoxyribonucleosides.

Uses:
Supplements, such as L-Glutamine, serum or antibiotics, should be added as sterile supplements to the
medium. Storage conditions and shelf-life of supplemented product will be affected by the nature of the supplements.
Add 10 ml/l of L-Glutamine 200mM before using this medium; This medium is formulated without antibiotics and without serum. This gives additional flexibility to its applications. The desired amount of serum and antibiotics should be added, using aseptictechniques, immediately prior to use.
Signs of Deterioration:
Medium should be clear and free of particulate and flocculent material. Do not use if medium is cloudy
or contains precipitate. Other evidence of deterioration may include pH change, colour change or degradation of performance characteristics.
The product is intended to be used in vitro for research or further manufacturing only and not for use as an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient or food or animal feed.
