HEPES is a zwitterionic organic buffering agent widely used in cell culture media. It offers superior buffering capacity compared to sodium bicarbonate at physiological pH levels (7.2–7.4) and standard incubation temperature (37°C), helping maintain stable pH conditions during cell culture.
